VIC Updates
Victorian Crew Update
For the Victorian team, Term 4 has been progressing wonderfully, with all 11 trainees steadily working through their hours. Some are even on track to complete their hours by late December.
It’s been an exciting term, with several SBATs (School-Based Apprentices and Trainees) stepping out of their comfort zones. For some, this included engaging in public speaking for the very first time.
At the Networking Breakfast in Melbourne, Natasha Allen had the opportunity to mingle with teachers, career mentors, principals, and industry professionals. Natasha gave an outstanding presentation about her SBAT experience at BayFit Leisure Centre. Despite feeling nervous, she stepped up with professionalism and confidence, sharing how her traineeship has positively shaped her journey and how much she enjoys her ongoing employment at BayFit.
Blake Harley also embraced a public speaking opportunity, addressing the new group of 2025 SBATs at their sign-up night. Blake shared his experiences from this year, captivating parents and trainees with his journey. Although he admitted feeling nervous as it was his first time speaking in front of a group, Blake delivered an inspiring message, helping to ignite excitement in the incoming Victorian cohort.
Trainee Progress and Achievements
Feedback from trainees has been incredibly positive, with many expressing pride in their achievements, particularly in completing their Certificate III with Chisholm Institute. While some trainees initially doubted their own abilities, they’ve gained confidence over the term, successfully passing units and improving their time management skills.
“Learning time management has been something I’ve improved on throughout the year. I’m proud of myself,” said Kelsey Williams during a recent check-in with Margaret.
Chisholm lecturer Kylie also shared her thoughts, describing the Victorian LEA SBATs as one of the most pleasant groups she’s worked with. She praised their commitment to learning and dedication to the program, saying it’s been a joy to teach them.
Fantastic effort, 2024 SBATs!
Gaining Skills and Confidence
With the growing demand for services at many Victorian facilities, trainees have confidently stepped up to expand their availability, taking on extra shifts to support their teams. Facility managers have praised the trainees’ teamwork, willingness to help, and the positive contributions they’ve made.
This additional work has allowed trainees to gain valuable skills while enjoying some extra pay—perfect timing with school holidays fast approaching in December and January!
Watching these trainees grow in confidence and ability over the year has been a true delight. Their hard work and dedication are paying off as they progress towards ongoing employment.
Finding their footing as young adults has been an incredible journey for these trainees, and we couldn’t be prouder. Congratulations to the 2024 Victorian SBATs!
Welcome to the 2025 Cohort
New sign-ups have been happening across Victoria this past month, with 11 excited new trainees embarking on their LEA journey. We can’t wait to see where their hard work takes them!
A Special Shout-Out to Alicia Farr
Congratulations to Alicia Farr, our VIC School-Based Trainee of the Year!
Alicia has shown unwavering commitment to her traineeship and, most importantly, to her future. We are so proud of her incredible achievement, which recognises her hard work, passion, and dedication.
We were honoured to accompany Alicia to the National Australian Training Awards in Canberra, where she represented Victoria as one of the top SBATs in the country. The competition was fierce, but it was a privilege for Alicia to reach this stage.
Alicia, you are a winner in our eyes! What an extraordinary experience for you and a reflection of the bright future ahead.
