Introducing Myah Snow

Myah Snow is a current LEA Pathway Trainee who also completed a LEA school based trainee in Year 12. Below, Myah shares a glimpse of her experience, what she has learned and what she wishes others to know who are considering a traineeship. The whole LEA team is incredibly proud of Myah and we thank her for taking the time to share her journey!

My LEA journey started in January 2021, during my final year of high school when I had to decide my year 12 subjects. As I was unsure of my career path, I consulted my school’s career advisor who introduced me to school-based traineeships with BlueFit. Given my background in competitive swimming and being a part-time swim teacher, doing a traineeship in the aquatics and recreation facility was perfect.

I began by completing a ‘Certificate III in Aquatics and Community Recreation’ at BayFit Leisure Centre. This traineeship gave me knowledge in various areas of the workplace from lifeguarding to customer service and expanding my expertise in swim teaching. Balancing my study sessions and year 12 commitments, I was able to complete my traineeship assessments at my own pace with minimal pressure.

Near the completion of my traineeship, I received the 'Victorian Trainee of the Year' award and decided to pursue a pathway traineeship in sport and recreation (certificate IV) which aligned with my career choice at the time of becoming an Event Manager. Progressing to a Duty Manager at BayFit was a major milestone as it broadened my understanding of facility operations, especially in pool management.

While being a Duty Manager, I created bigger goals to give me greater involvement within the business. I began to have conversations with mentors which led me to realise that my passion was within BlueFit, particularly exploring HR. An opportunity arose and I transitioned into a HR role whilst continuing to work as a Duty Manager across multiple locations. My exposure to multiple sites such as Windy Hill, Jubilee, Riverside, and Club Armstrong gave me more knowledge in operations and management within the fitness industry. In the future, I aspire to grow into higher positions within operations or HR and I aim to provide ongoing support to all employees, by helping them grow to reach their goals and ambitions.

I owe a huge appreciation to Evette, Kai and Ben for their amazing support and mentoring throughout my LEA journey, their belief in me has helped me get to where I am today. Undertaking a traineeship with BlueFit has given me many opportunities that I am passionate about, and I have enjoyed meeting many different people, learning from diverse experiences, and stepping out of my comfort zone. I think what has helped me the most throughout my journey has been seeking guidance from others and always asking for help when I am unsure, which has helped me grow as a person and increase my overall skills and knowledge.

For those who are considering undertaking a traineeship, I would highly recommend doing one with BlueFit. The continuous support and guidance allows trainees to reach their full potential and by embracing the opportunities that I have been given has led me to fulfil a career in HR and operations, which is something I never imagined before undertaking my traineeship.

Well Wishes For 2024

Wishing everyone a positive and safe start to 2024, I look forward to sharing more pathway stories and the new look pathway program that will be launching!
