New South Wales Update
NSW Training Awards
Massive congratulations to Skye Hammond from Newcastle for making it through as a finalist for the NSW Hunter & Central Region for NSW Trainee of the Year. A well-deserved award and achievement for Skye. It was a pleasure attending Skye’s awards night at Newcastle City Hall.
Early Completions
A huge congratulations to the following students for completing their traineeships early. From Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre, we have Rana, Harris, Emma, Olive, Ben & Frankie, and from Lambton (Newcastle Pools), we have Madalena & Skye.
These trainees have worked extremely hard, not only meeting their 760 working hours early but also completing their Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. Despite the challenges they faced throughout their traineeships, they demonstrated remarkable resilience. We are extremely proud of every one of them.
Hours
Just a reminder that as we enter winter, there will be less opportunities for additional shifts, resulting in fewer hours. Trainees are encouraged to make the most of the upcoming school holidays to pick up extra hours where possible.
We would like to make a special mention to Anabelle Stojceska for completing an impressive 424 hours, over half the required hours for the traineeship. This achievement is outstanding, considering we are only halfway through the year.
2025 Recruitment
We are thrilled to announce the commencement of our 2025 recruitment, with applications opening on July 1st. Our NSW team will also recruit for the new South West Sydney sites, including Mount Annan Leisure Centre, Oran Park Leisure Centre, and Camden War Memorial Pool. These additions are particularly exciting for NSW, as current trainees will have opportunities to work as Pool Lifeguards, Kids Sports Instructors, Learn to Swim Instructors, Customer Service representatives, and more.
Please keep an eye out for our NSW team, who have been actively attending numerous Careers Expos and School events this past term. A special thank you to our Youth trainees, Noah and Skye, for their assistance with these expos.
CERT III Update & Progress
Our Year 11 & 12 trainees have been working extremely hard in meeting their Cert III competencies. The 2024 cohort have recently transitioned to a Cert III in Sports, Aquatics and Recreations. They have been doing a spectacular job in attending and engaging with their monthly online ATC sessions with Haley.
Shout out to the nineteen 2023 trainees who have successfully completed their Cert III theory units. We only have six trainees remaining. Keep up the hard work with your traineeship!
Farewell Nikala
Finally, we are devastated to announce that our First Nations Mentor and LEA Traineeship Consultant, Nikala Seiver will be finishing up her time with LEA on the 18th of July.
Nikala has been part of LEA since she was a Hurstville trainee in 2018. Throughout her time she has been crucial in the growth and development of not only the trainees but the LEA SBAT program.
Nikala has now completed her University studies and we wish her the best of luck with the start of her new career in Primary Teaching!
